ALARM BREAKTHROUGH
Hidden Security for Bikes
A Llanarth company is aiming to stop thieves going for a ride with an innovative award-winning bicycle alarm, writes Antony Gedge. Evnatech Cymru Cyf has designed the Shadow Alarm, which can be fixed inside the handlebars of a bike and is the first in-frame bike alarm.
And the design, which received the Welsh Development Agency Innovation Award for 2001 as a prototype, has now won the backing of Ceredigion MP Simon Thomas Mr Thomas is a keen cyclist and a member of the House of Commoms All-Party Cycling Group, and can often be seen cycling around Ceredigion and London. He said "The company are to be congratulated for producing what will prove to ba a very useful tool in the fight against bicycle thefts. I am happy to support Evnatech who are a local company providing employment for local people and producing locally."
Tom Evans said that he hopes the Shadow will become a vital piece of equipment for the cyclist.
"With cycle theft on the increase all cyclists should fit a deterrent on their bikes, but they need the option of retaining the bike's original looks. The Shadow gives that option as it fits inside the frame. This also gives it full protection from accidental or deliberate damage." Evnatech who designed and patented the system, spent considerable time testing the effectiveness of the system. This included in-depth discussions and trials with dedicated cyclists before the alarm was finally perfected. The Alarm has been designed to be fitted in seconds yet difficult to remove.
